This painting is hard to photograph as there’s silvery iridescent paint in the top left-hand corner and on the edge of the stag’s body and antlers, as well as lots of glazed layers of colour in the darks. When the light changes on the painting, or the angle you’re looking at it shifts, what you see in the painting changes. If the light is catching the iridescent paint, it literally shines. When there’s less direct light on the painting, it appears darker.
